Art Style Generator Workshops Using
his Style Wheel as a way to understand a full spectrum of basic styles,
Morris begins the five day workshop with a slideshow and discussion of
the
ways of seeing. Historic and contemporary uses of the
basic styles are explored, followed by discussion of the ways any
one of the basic styles can be altered by the many choices an artist
makes in terms of materials, refinement, edge quality, color,
saturation, contrast, and value.
Before the workshop, attendees are asked to bring one object that they would like to use as reference for multiple drawings or paintings that will each employ a different basic style. During the afternoon of the first day, attendees select points on the Style Wheel for each piece that they plan to create. They also consider the direction and materials as mentioned above, so they have a clear plan for each piece. Over the following three days, as they create these pieces, Morris helps each artist to stay consistent with the stylistic goals that they have set for themselves. During the afternoon of the fourth day, Morris presents a slideshow and discussion about works of art that juxtapose or integrate multiple basic styles. Morris then helps attendees to make plans for such a piece and to clearly define how the styles will interact. On the last day, the artists set to work on the new piece, using their original object and/or any other object or image as reference. |
