Rose Frantzen

Painting Workshops in Maquoketa, Iowa

These five-day intensive workshops begin with a focus on portrait painting in oil.  Rose gives a portrait demonstration on the first day.  During the next 4 days, participants paint two portrait, with two models posing for two days each.  We attempt to cover all aspects of portrait painting, from palette choices to drawing to seeing and capturing the colors and forms we see in the models, all the while attempting to maintain a critical and patient eye.

During the workshop, Rose welcomes discussions on art, being an artist, and how we see ourselves in relationship to the creative experience.  Participants often have meals together in Maquoketa and surrounding towns, continuing the discussion and camaraderie.  Rose and her husband, artist Charles Morris, also offer a tour of Old City Hall Gallery.

The fee is $600.  There is also a $75 modeling fee.  Participants bring their own materials.  Easels are provided for the participants.  Odorless paint thinner is provided for those who are flying.
